The Penniman House
The Penniman House, completed in 1868, was styled after the French Second-Empire period. It included every known comfort of the day and many innovative ideas. The Captain Edward Penniman family enjoyed this fine home for nearly 100 years and the house is resplendent with the records and artifacts gathered during the family's extensive whaling expeditions. Visitors will be welcomed to the property by the large whale jawbone gateway which was thought to bring good luck to all who passed through. Visitors may also view the extraordinary souvenirs of whaling and seafaring history, and will enjoy this spectacular example of historic Cape Cod home life.Off Route 6, approximately one mile north of the Orleans rotary at Fort Hill in Eastham.
