The Inn
In 2005, innkeepers Pam and Don Andersen officially changed the name of the inn from the Overlook Inn to the Inn at the Oaks. This name change reflected a deeper and more gradual ‘turning of tides’ for the former sea captain’s mansion. The Andersens, inspired by limited accommodation options for families traveling on Cape Cod, envisioned a bed & breakfast that welcomed families. Pam and Don began implementing their new ideas by allowing children to stay in the main house and created play areas for children. As the laughter of guests’ children mingled with that of their own two young children, the Andersens continued transforming the inn. Today, Pam and Don cater to the needs of the family bed & breakfast traveler. The Andersen family hopes the Inn at the Oaks will become a cherished part of your Cape Cod family vacation experience.
We have a variety of amenities and services to suit many needs:
- The Billiards Room offers a wealth of activities for your family: pool table, board games, chess, puzzles and more. A computer with high-speed Internet is available.
- The Little Acorns Play Room is a special room with games and toys for all ages.
- Yard Activities: The playground offers slides, swings, climbing equipment, and a sandbox constructed from a recycled boat. These are sure to please your children and provide a wonderful outlet for extra energy! For older children and adults, we have horseshoes, basketball, croquet and a hammock.
- Spa Services: Relax with a private visit to the inn’s two-person hot tub, or make an appointment for a therapeutic message. We can arrange other services for you at local spas.
- Concierge Services: We offer a wide range of planning services and provide activity suggestions to keep your family entertained. Some activities include: kayak tours, bike rides, whale watches, seal cruises, dinner reservations, massages and much more.
- Beach Accessories: The inn offers a limited number of lunch coolers, beach towels, beach umbrellas, and chairs for guests to borrow on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Special Occasion Gifts: By request, Pam and Don can prepare a romantic surprise, or a memento for your child or traveling companion. Simply call with your request. Our offerings include: a handcrafted Inn at the Oaks coffee mug, Portsmouth Company loose tea, Beanstock coffee, Danish Abelskiver pan, Inn at the Oaks surf bear, box of chocolates, cut flowers, or floral arrangements.
- Small Function Facilities: We offer facilities for indoor and outdoor functions, including family reunions, weddings, holiday parties, conferences, and business meetings. We can use our local resources to help plan indoor functions for parties up to 45, and outdoor functions for parties up to 50. For more information and rates, please call Pam.
Breakfasts
Each morning, we great guests with hearty, homemade breakfasts in the cozy Tractor room, dining room or on the sunlit porch or patio. A continental breakfast of freshly brewed coffee, teas, hot chocolate, juice, cereals, toast, homemade muffins, and fruit are offered beginning at 8:00 a.m. The full breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and includes a special menu choice of the day.
Some of our delectable recipes include: Ableskivers, Banana Walnut French Toast, Parmesan Baked Eggs, pancakes, Florentine Casserole, Herb Frittata and Creamy Stuffed French Toast,. Breakfasts are usually served with a side of sausage or bacon.
Every Sunday morning, we celebrate our Danish heritage by serving our signature breakfast of Abelskivers, often described as hollow Danish pancake balls. These deliciously light and fluffy pastries are served with maple syrup or jam. This Abelskiver recipe was passed down from Don’s Danish grandmother, Stinna, and pleases guests of all ages.
